Aeolus, gave his name to this archipelago and bestowed Odysseus with a bag full of favourable winds. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Aeolian Islands along with the Amalfi Coast make this one of the most alluring rivieras in all of Europe. Marked by ancient defensive structures built to prevent invasions by pirates and Seracens, since the nineteenth century these unforgettable coasts have been a home to painters and writers from the entire continent and a favourite refuge for mariners. It is a coast dotted by mountains crowned with a fire that appears as if it comes down directly from the stars themselves.
